Hello class, my name is Marcella Barnes, and I am a female senior at the college. My major is forensic psychology, and I plan on obtaining my masters in social work after I graduate. Although I am a psychology major, the reason why I decided to take this class is that I took a class on sex and culture and wanted to know a lot about the social implications of lesbians and gays so, I was recommended to take this class. I didn’t take the first part of gender studies. However, I hope to gain a lot from taking this class.
My name is Virginia King and my pronouns are she/her. I am a junior and I am majoring in Criminal Justice Management with a minor in Human Rights. I hope to learn more about feminism around the world and the way it differently affects people of other cultures.
Hello class! My name is Michelle Moussot and I am a Junior here at John Jay. My pronouns are she/her/hers and I double-major in Forensic Psychology and Gender Studies. Hi everyone, name is Niambi Moore. I prefer the pronouns she/her/hers. My major is Gender Studies and my minor is Political Science. An area of gender justice I would love to explore is how mothers are seen in the workplace in different parts of the world. Most people don’t think of it as justice, but it is a problem in the United States. I hope everyone has a successful semester!
Hello Niambi, Thanks for sharing, and with your course of study has many opportunities in the career field such as Policy Analyst, Legislative assistant, public relations specialist, social media manager, marketing researchers, political consulting, attorney, intelligence analyst, college student leadership and activities officer. Gender studies is extremely important in understanding also why women throughout history have been muted because of there roles of being house wifes and taking care of the family. Women mistreated and weren’t taking seriously in the work field which was male dominated becuase men were the providered and held control over the family and women. Thanks for sharing again have a great semester looking forward towards interacting with you.

Hello everyone my name is Darius Kinard I am a senior here at John Jay where I major in Criminal Justice and minor in Gender Studies. I typically use the pronoun he/him/his, An area of gender justice I wouldn’t mind exploring is how toxic masculinity has negatively effected society as a whole, I think you can tie that into a class on feminism. Look forward to a great semester.
Hello, everyone, my name is Ingrid Funez
Her/she/them
My major is Criminal Justice, I am a junior. I had previously taken a gender studies class and I learned a lot about how Men and Women have different ways of expressing each other. Men feel like they are not able to express themselves because they are afraid of being seen as “too sensitive”. Growing up in a society that everything on social media has pictures of masculine men and what’s the perfect body image for women. Men are expected to act a certain way because society has this idea that “men don’t cry” and as for women we are supposed to act ladylike, presentable, know how to cook, how to be a mom etc.. As kids maybe for some of us we were not allowed to play with barbies because you are boy as for girls are not allowed to play with cars because that’s what society has imprinted in our lives and our parents. For this gender studies class, I want to furthermore learn about the impact that society has on this new wave on young adults.
Sincerely, Ingrid Funez
Thank You
